What is Data Storage?

Data storage is the ability of a mechanism or device to store information in digital form. It is usually measured as an SI multiple of bytes.

In the early days of computing data storage was often measured in kilobytes. But with the development of modern semiconductor manufacturing techniques, memory device capacities are now measured in gigabytes. In terms of disk storage, devices with a capacity of multiples of terrabytes are now becoming widely available.
